Race Up The Face Results!
McHenry, MD - June 6, 2011 – Thirty-five hearty souls turned out Monday evening to defy gravity and compete in the World’s Hardest 400 Meter Run TM”: the Race UP The Face. The field was very tight for the first 200 meters but thinned out during the final 200 meters which included 100 meters of the 124 meter total ascent to the top of the WISP resort’s signature black diamond ski slope. There was a tight race for the first three spots with Eric Maxin posting the fastest time this year of 4:33 beating out Lex Ozias and Mike McConnell to the finish line. There was also a tight race among female competitors with Whitney Sloan posting a time of 5:32 to beat out Rebecca Flinn for top honors.
The age of competitors ranged from 6 year old Drew Hordubay to 82 year young Paul Shogren. “Shogren commented, I’m glad I did it and I look forward to next year when I modify my shoes.“ Bob Stephens, the race director stated: “the standard is to complete the race, rather than trying to win. We were thrilled once again that all of our participants arrived at the top and were smiling once they had a chance to catch their breath.” At the end of the race the participants were awarded an “I survived the Race Up The Face” bumper sticker. The Race Up The Face was sponsored by Garrett Trails to promote fun in the outdoors and focus attention on the work and mission of Garrett Trails.
