Volunteer Opportunities
Garrett Trails has several volunteer positions available and a range of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
Trail Maintenance Support - We’re looking for a few people to assist our Maintenance Chair, Evan Byrne, with maintenance and clean-up days on trails. If you love to be outside, organize people, and quickly see the results of your work, this would be a great position for you! Trail Maintenance Volunteers are integral to the trail systems and are truly appreciated.
Geocaching Hike Days - There are so many great places on our trails to do Geocacheing—for the uninitiated, think of this as a big, ongoing scavenger or treasure hunt using GPS coordinates. If you take on this project and you’ll hike or bike new trails to find the perfect place to put that cache (the treasure), organize what is in the ‘cache’, and make sure it is listed on the online geocache sites. This could probably single handling triple the number of visitors on our trails and besides it is fun!
Hiking/Walking Coordinator(s) - Our hiking or walking coordinators will organize 2 or 3 walks a year. This means you’ll decide where you want to hike, if you want to coordinate with a naturalist or birder, and what day to go. Think of it this way, it is a great excuse to go for a walk in the woods and have other folks along for company; it is also a great way to meet new people! You can make the hike as easy or hard, long or short as you want. These are one of the opportunities we’ll offer our Friends of Garrett Trails and it will definitely show people new areas of the county.
Mountain Biking Coordinator(s) - Our mountain biking coordinator(s) sets-up ride routes. You decide when and where. You decide how hard or long.
