If you love to be outside, organize people, and quickly see the results of your work, this would be a great position for you! • work with the Garrett Trails Coordinator and DNR land managers and/or mayors to determine necessary work,
  • review the work that needs to be done,
  • assist in organizing or gathering supplies,
  • set work day,
  • help recruit volunteers for the day, and
  • act as supervisor on the work day.

This would be a terrific project to take on as a club or service organization. It would also be great experience for someone interested in learning how to construct sustainable trails.

Are you computer literate? Do you like seeing information properly organized? This volunteer position would be responsible for:

  • checking our Friends of Garrett Trails mailbox,
  • depositing checks and
  • entering new ‘members’ into our online database.

Friends of Garrett Trails is our means of gathering new volunteers and supporters. • Input news articles into our online contact program using existing templates or creating her own templates, and
  • Will generally ensure that a newsletter is prepared to go out 4 times a year.

GEOCacher Coordinator
There are so many great places on our trails to do Geocacheing—for the uninitiated, think of this as a big, ongoing scavenger or treasure hunt using GPS coordinates. If you take on this project and you’ll hike or bike new trails to find the perfect place to put that cache (the treasure), organize what is in the ‘cache’, and make sure it is listed on the online geocache sites. This could probably single handling triple the number of visitors on our trails and besides it is fun!

Hiking/Walking Coordinator(s)

Think of it this way, it is a great excuse to go for a walk in the woods and have other folks along for company; it is also a great way to meet new people! You can make the hike as easy or hard, long or short as you want. We’ll provide a little funding for drinks for people. These are one of the opportunities we’ll offer our Friends of Garrett Trails and it will definitely show people new areas of the county.

Mountain Biking Coordinator(s)
Our mountain biking coordinator(s) will organize 1 to 3 rides a year. You decide when and where. You decide how hard or long. Think of it this way, it is a great excuse to go for a ride in the woods and have other folks along for company; it is also a great way to meet new people! We can help provide shuttle if you want to do a long ride! These are one of the opportunities we’ll offer our Friends of Garrett Trails and it will definitely show people new areas of the county.
