PROGRESS & STAGES OVERVIEW
We have many projects in different stages of development, here are the general guidelines we follow to determine their feasibility.
Stage 1 – Trail Concept & Exploration
This process can take many months and involves a tremendous amount of research. Information on the potential trail location, deeds, usage, connections, amenities and community interest is gathered. If you have heard about a project near you and have questions, give us a call to get up to date information.
Stage 2 – Trail Alignment & Securing Access/Easements
At this point initial contact is made with land owners that may have a vested interest in the trail development. Garrett Trails shares our research with them to open conversations between stakeholders. There are many misconceptions about trail building. This is where we address those concerns, and if land owners are willing easements are considered and drafted.
Stage 3 – Engineering/Construction Planning & Environmental Review
If Stage Two produces easement agreements, a physical inventory of the trail corridor can be conducted. Everything from the environmental inventory to where culverts and signs may need to be placed is considered by engineers.
Stage 4 – Funding & Construction
The main components of this step include creating a budget, identifying and securing a funding source and bidding out and hiring the best trail builders we can find. While Garrett Trails performs some physical construction and much of the ongoing maintenance for trails, our primary functions during construction are as the Project Managers. Our team is comprised of local managers with decades of experience as contractors, farmers, professional engineers and designers, hospitality business owners and more. We build where we live, staking our reputations on our work.
Stage 5 – Mapping, Promotion & Maintenance
This step includes promoting the newly constructed trail, outlining a maintenance strategy for upkeep and updating all available mapping resources to accurately reflect our communities newest achievement!
