are you INTERESTED in using our grit spartan all terrain wheelchair for free?
With a generous grant from the Tucker Community Foundation we purchased an all terrain wheelchair in order to expand access to trail services for people with mobility challenges. The chair is stored with the Deep Creek Lions Club at the Meshach Browning Trail system in McHenry, MD, and available for your use. Scroll down for photos of local adaptive friendly trails and information on how to use the chair.
How & where to use the chair
- You MUST have someone available to help spot from behind while using the chair. Currently we do not have wheelie bars installed, so it is important that another person is available to help on steeper inclines.
- The chair can be propelled two ways. One is self propulsion using the push bars that are geared to the wheels. The other is to have an assistant use the traditional handles on the back of the chair.
- The chair easily disassembles for transport in your vehicle.
- The chair is currently free to use for one business day. We are trying to avoid rental and deposit fees, and require a signed user release from both participants as well as a promise to only use it on the trails designated in the use agreement. A list of those trails is below.
- This is a good faith effort by our organization to make outdoor recreation more accessible to you. Please help us in that mission by staying on designated trails and only using the chair within its specifications so it remains available for others.

Forest Trails - More rugged than a town trail, less rugged than a backcountry trail, these are perfect for families or individuals that can go off pavement, but cannot commit to large elevation changes.
